Well, howdy do 2025! It’s that special time of year once again where we pause to take a few minutes to reflect on everything we accomplished in 2024. It’s a doozy of a list, folks! While its not an exhaustive list, this blog spells out key Font Awesome Updates you’ll want to know about.
From growing our product lineup to sharing some truly dramatic — but also kind of funny — moments (including a tuxedo kitten drama that could easily include a movie adaptation), last year was one for the books. If you want all the juicy details, including the full saga of Toast the kitten, be sure to check out the latest episode of Podcast Awesome. We get it. We’re not all readers.
So, here we are. A new year. But before we share our future plans, here’s a rundown of the stuff we thought you’d want to know about from 2024.
Expanding the Awesomeverse
One of the biggest milestones of 2024 for us was becoming a true multi-product company, as we expanded the “Awesomeverse”, so to speak, (cue Avengers theme music here) with two new products: Web Awesome and Eleventy.
Web Awesome is the rebranded and reimagined Shoelace, and we launched with a super successful Kickstarter campaign, which we’re really psyched about (more info below). Thanks to all who have supported the project! It’s these kinds of Font Awesome updates that keep us moving forward.
Eleventy, the beloved static site generator, also joined forces with the Font Awesome team. We were thrilled to welcome Eleventy creator, Zach Leatherman.
A Growing Team of Legends
In 2024 we welcomed some new smarty pants team members. Lea Verou, a web development icon (get it? Icon?) and a former MIT lecturer, joined us and jumped right in feet first quickly becoming a force behind projects like Web Awesome Pro. Just a few months in, and it’s clear: Lea is definitely helping make things more … awesome.
Zach Leatherman joining the team has been like plugging Eleventy into turbo mode — new energy, fresh ideas, and some seriously exciting plans already in motion. But don’t worry, Eleventy fans, no need to hit the panic button or change a thing. You can keep building lightning-fast websites (with build times to match!) just like always. We’re sticking to our roots, continuing to develop and maintain the open-source project you know and love. So, carry on coding — and maybe give a quick, virtual high-five to Zach while you’re at it!
Hiring Zach and Lea has really helped set the stage for great things to come for Font Awesome with the added bonus that it helped boost our cool kid status in the tech community. Sheesh, announcing their arrivals felt like watching celebrities walk the red carpet! All these Font Awesome updates aren’t just about new products and tools — they’re about the people making the web even more awesome.
More Highlights From 2024
Last year was also packed with a boatload of updates, including a full release of Duotone Icons in all styles, from Regular to Sharp. And what good is an icon if you can’t find it? Well, we also introduced Icon Detail Views to make exploring icons more intuitive. We also launched a new Pro Light Plan, which makes it easier for users to access the benefits of Font Awesome Pro, but in a lighter weight version for those who just need a liiiitle bit more than a free plan, but not a full-blown Pro plan.
Branding: With the help of the immensely talented Josh Williams, we updated the Font Awesome flag logo and unveiled a new crown logo for Web Awesome. The new designs are sleek, clean, and aligned with our future-focused vision.
Behind the scenes: We made significant infrastructure upgrades, such as NPM-installable Kits and improved search architecture, which should mean a faster and smoother experience for our users. We also polished up our onboarding process and released updated documentation to help users get started, lickity split. With all of our under-the-radar Font Awesome updates, we’re all about making things smooth and easy for fa-users.
The Web Awesome Kickstarter
Anytime we get a chance to help shape a promotional video, it’s a good sign that things are going pretty well at Font Awesome. And that’s just what we did for the Web Awesome Kickstarter campaign. Using a fun Lego building blocks analogy, we demonstrated how web components can really simplify and speed up the process of building websites.
If you missed the campaign, you can still back the project at webawesome.com to get early access to Pro features before the public launch later this year. Web Awesome joins our original Font Awesome Kickstarter as the two most funded software projects in the history of Kickstarter.
And if you missed it, make sure to check out the must-watch video.
Plans for 2025 and Beyond
With the official public launch of Web Awesome Pro, and Eleventy cranking out updates and releases, with some surprises that (sorry!) we’ve still got under wraps, we’ve got our work cut out for us this year. As we continue to expand the Awesomeverse, as always, we’ll keep serving up the same recipe that you know and love, so developers, designers, and content creators can simplify their workflows.
Don’t Miss the Pro Subscription Sale
Ope, just one more reminder — our $99/year Font Awesome Pro subscription is still available, but only for a limited time. Lock in that nice price now and you can keep it for the lifetime of your subscription. But the price of Pro will increase to $120 later this year, so now’s a good time to hop to it!
